Bread Baking Basics app good for
This app is great!
Functional, all the recipes work, the instructions are precise and the illustrations really help!
My favorite app, the bread looks exactly like the pictures.
I strongly recommend it.
Simple to use, great reference. Recipes are well illustrated. 2$ well spent.
I found this simple and intuitive to use. The recipes are authentic and the directions easy to follow. The reference section provides a wealth of knowledge in a short time frame. I have used the app once so far and hope to get much use out of it.
Some bad moments
There is no kneading technique given. The dough was so dry it was almost like a stone. Was impossible to knead at all. Maybe there is something wrong with measurements. The baking time was clearly not enough. The bread made by recipe came out too heavy and thick. I am new to baking bread, but I have already made breads several time by recipes from books and they came out quite well, though not perfect. So I suppose its not that is something wrong with me, most likely its something wrong with information in the app.
Apart from that there are only few recipes (not taking shapes of bread in consideration, which is not a different recipe) of most simple breads in this application. I didnt like it at all and deleting it.
A brilliant cooking app that teaches the basics of bread baking using Ruhlmans ratios and fully utilizes the power of the iPad.
Michael Ruhlman as an chef, observer and writer has recognized a common element to help people who love cooking: RATIOs! His book Ratio holds a place on my counter and is an oft referenced volume when I cook. I have added the Ratio app to my iPad and now I have added this latest addition Bread Baking Basics. I highly recommend anyone who wants clarity and consistency buy this latest addition!
Great functionality and a useful resource in the kitchen. Its great viewing on the iPad very easy to read and navigate.
I really like this app. Approachable, simple to read directions. This is great for beginners who want fresh homemade bread. I hope there are more apps like this to come along in the future.
I bake bread at least once a week and decided to give the whole wheat loaf a try. Just reading it you could tell there was going to be a problem. 4 tsp salt for 2 loaves?? oven 450 for 45 minutes?? since I generally like Rhulmans recipes I thought I would trust him, made 2 loaves. Crust immediately got dark so covered with foil. Took out at 45 and bottom crust black. Attempted to eat, WAY too salty (and I love salt!). Good news is that my chickens really like it and are gobbling 1 3/4 loaves right now.
I wonder if anyone tested these recipes before publishing.
Not willing to try the other recipes, will stick with the tried and true.
Michael please fix this
